Stay Cool as a Cucumber this Summer!

If you live in Florida you know how hot it can get and how difficult it can be to stay cool. You walk out the door and a wall of heat hits you, usually especially for the months of July, August, and September. With added high humidity the only respite is the fact that nearly all homes and virtually all businesses have air conditioning.

How is your Air Conditioning system fairing?

We know it has been cooler out over the past few months and our units have been turned on less than usual, but its that time of year once again. Time to flip that switch to cool/on and set the temperature for whatever best suits your internal core.

Making sure its in good working order before the serious heat hits is important. Get up from your computer or mobile device, go over to the thermostat and go ahead and flip it now. What to look for:

1. Does the unit respond, does it come on?
2. Does it begin to blow cool air after a few minutes?
3. Does the room feel like its cooling down?
4. Does the fan run constantly or does it go ahead and turn itself off once the desired temperature is reached? (it should shut off).
5. If it is constantly going on and off, it could signify trouble as well.

If it is working right, great! – stay cool.
If it isn’t working right, here are a few things to try before you need to call us:

1. Check circuit breakers and fuses and make sure one has not been tripped. If it has, reset it and try your AC again.
2. Check and make sure your thermostat is set to cool (if its on warm or just on the fan it will not cool down your home).
3. This one may seem obvious, but make sure its plugged in.
4. Check the coils and filter – if it’s clogged with dirt and dust, cool air won’t be able to get through.
