vents Fort Myers

Many homeowners think that by closing off vents in rooms that are not used that it will save them money. Actually, by doing this, it will cost you more. It can ultimately damage your HVAC system.

Your heat and air conditioning system work on a pressure system. It needs to move a certain amount of air through the system while working against pressure. If you block parts of the system, it will have to work harder. By closing the vents in unused rooms, you are increasing the pressure inside of the ducts. Any small leaks in the ductwork is a place for air to escape the large amount of pressure. This is air that is not making it into your home. The blower for your HVAC is forced to work harder and that is not a good sign.

When you close the vents, it can cause your blower to slow down not push as much air over the coils in your air conditioner. The end result in this is your evaporator coils icing over. If this keeps happening, your compressor can be destroyed by the refrigerant backing into it. Closing vents is also terrible for your heat system. The low airflow can cause the system to overheat.

If parts and pieces are damaged because you did not keep your vents open, your warranty might not cover the cost. So, it is best to keep all of your vents open in your entire home. Even in the rooms that you do not use.
