Black mold Fort myers

Even if you have had a UV (ultra violet) light bulb installed inside of your air handler, over time those bulbs start to dim and eventually go out. When that happens, especially here in Florida in our oh-so-humid environment mold and mildew can begin to form. In most cases – black mold which is highly toxic to both humans and pets.

Unless the ducts and the unit itself are maintained it can quickly spiral out of control and changing the filter will not be enough to keep the mold particles from blowing out freely into your home.

Black mold illness (Mycotoxicosis) is often mistaken for many other health issues including colds, flu, fibromyalgia, Lyme’s Disease, Lupus, MS and even cancer. Breathing in and being exposed to the mold particles for any length of time can cause the illness to set in. Mold exposure takes time to heal from as your immune system needs to recuperate. If left too long damage can be done to your health that is irreversible.

If you do find mold in your home it can be removed from hard surfaces with soap and water, Vinegar, Baking Soda, Borax, Ammonia, even Tea Tree Oil…. please do not use bleach. It only makes the mold appear clear so it can’t be seen. It does not neutralize the mold/spores which then end up being spread further into the air during cleaning.

Having your Air Conditioner maintained and cleaned regularly eliminates the possibility of this happening in your home. It will extend the life of your unit and possibly the lives of the inhabitants as well.  Maintenance twice a year (once every 6 months) is recommended. Once yearly is the standard minimum.
