Your air conditioner has been cranking along all summer long. And, here in southwest Florida unlike the states up north, it continues to keep you cool all year long. So, how do you know when it is time to replace your air conditioner? Being the experts in the HVAC field, we have some tips on when to start exploring a new system:
- Your monthly energy bill has increased. You know that you haven’t changed your temperature settings, but you have noticed that your electric bill is higher than normal. This is a sign that your air conditioner system is not functioning efficiently and will probably get worse the longer you let it go.
- Your air conditioner is over ten years old. Even though these systems are meant to last around 15 years, you may notice that it is failing from time to time and the costs to keep it going start to outweigh a new unit.
- You have noticed that it is taking a lot longer to cool your home. Here in Florida, the days can be scorchers. If it takes a lot longer to cool your home down than it normally has in the past, then start shopping for a new unit.
- You find yourself calling to get the system repaired more often. The cost of repairs will start to outweigh the cost of a new air conditioning unit. It will not get any better. Parts and pieces will break down due to the use and will continue to erode and break down, costing you more.
- Your annual repair is not cutting it. Most systems only need a tune up once or twice a year. If you find yourself calling for the system to get serviced more often, this is a sign to consider replacing the entire unit.
