AC Fort Myers

The weather this year has been all over the place, hot and cold, on and off – very bipolar! Even so, this is Florida and the massive heat we feel during summer months are on the way It’s important to know how to properly prepare your air conditioning unit to keep it running cold even when it’s scorching out.

No matter where your AC unit is located, it is important to note that there will be debris that has built up inside and outside (if it’s an indoor/outdoor whole house model) of the unit itself that could obstruct proper air flow.

A clogged AC will not be functioning optimally which pulls more energy than necessary in order to try and maintain the desired temperature. Allergens can also become a problem. Dust, bug debris, animal dander, plant particles and more can become trapped inside and blow out into your supposedly nice clean breathing air.

What you can do:

Collect the following –

  • Dust Mask – to avoid inhaling the built up debris in your AC unit.
  • Air Conditioner Cleaner – this is useful for larger units that have a lot of built up gunk.
  • Vacuum Brush – you can use this brush in place of the AC cleaner on smaller window AC units.
  • Canned Spray Air – to help blow out anything that you can’t reach, especially in the grill of your unit.

Unplug the power source always before touching the air conditioning unit in an attempt clear it.

Put on your dust mask and grab either your AC cleaner or vacuum brush, and clean the grill on the back of the unit, run the brush across the front vents to clean out anything on the surface. Make sure to get the coils as well!

Quick Tip: Use a can of spray air (you can find this near electronics, typically near computer keyboards) and give the back of the unit and the front vents a good long spray.

These simple steps will ensure your AC unit is performing at an optimal level. If you are not up for cleaning the unit yourself All Day Air Cooling and Heating is very happy to service your unit for you. Please visit www.AllDayAirCooling.com to learn more or schedule a visit.
